summer Cam:
a word from The cameron fahey foundation president

Dear Friends:
On behalf of the board of the Cameron Miller Fahey Memorial Scholarship Foundation, thank you for your generous support of the Foundation. We established the Foundation to carry forward the spirit of our beloved Cameron, a loving son, nephew, cousin and grandson to his family and a trusted friend and caring and thoughtful human being to the world in general. Thanks to your support, we have been able to award over $60,000 to deserving graduates of Brother Rice High School and St. Barnabas School who, in the judgement of our board, exemplify the spirit and qualities of Cam which made him the irreplaceable young man who left us far too soon. This year, three members of Brother Rice's Class of 2019 and two Brother Rice-bound members of St. Barnabas' Class of 2019 have been selected as scholarship recipients.
Our first fundraiser, Summer Cam 2018, held on July 14, 2018, was a great success. Not only did it raise significant funds for the Foundation, its presentation of young people playing live music in an atmosphere of friendship and community perfectly suited the Foundation's mission: to carry forward the spirit of Cameron Fahey. I can state with certainty that Cam would have approved.
We planned to carry forward with Summer Cam 2019 to keep the good energy flowing. Unfortunately, a long-planned parking lot reconstruction project by our wonderful and committed partner at Brother Rice High School prevents the use of our 2018 (and hopefully future) venue this year. Discussions with St. Barnabas Parish to hold Summer Cam at the St. Barnabas gym (where Cam spent so much time misbehaving in gym class and in basketball games wearing the St. Barnabas uniform) did not resolve to the satisfaction of our board.
As a result, Summer Cam, at least in the form in which it was presented in 2018, will not go forward in 2019. We look forward to a resumption of this joyous event in 2020 at Brother Rice High School, the most generous and accommodating host for whom we could hope. In the meantime, the Foundation is looking into the possibility of holding a more limited event in 2019 to benefit the Foundation. I will keep you posted as to this possibility.
Given the foregoing, we would appreciate it if you could find it possible to continue to support the Foundation during 2019 as we proceed through this year characterized by the uncertainty I have detailed above. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation registered with the State of Illinois as a charitable organization. Donations are tax-deductible and can be directed to the Cameron Miller Fahey Memorial Scholarship Foundation at P.O. Box 437742, Chicago, Illinois 60643-7742. Fell free to forward this message to anyone you might think interested in the activities of our Foundation.
I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the events I have detailed in the preceding paragraphs. I can be reached at this email address or at (312) 315-8520 and will do my my best to respond to any questions or comments you might have in an expeditious fashion.
I thank you again for your support and for the good you do for our deserving scholars.
